  • English Access Microscholarship Program

The English Access Microscholarship Program in Israel provides a foundation of English language skills to over 2000 non-elite, 14 - 18 year old students. This 2-year scholarship enables Access program students to participate in free after school English classes and intensive summer learning activities. The program prepares motivated students for the four-point English matriculation exam for entrance into Israeli universities. By improving the level of English, the Access program has a direct impact on reducing inequities in educational opportunities, thus contributing indirectly to progress on regional political issues and Middle East peace.  Students also gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values through supplemental cultural activities.  

English Access Microscholarship Teacher Workshop

Outstanding Access program teachers are invited to participate in an annual three week workshop in the U.S. during the summer.  The workshop includes components on methodology, linguistic enhancement, educational leadership, and cultural interchange.

 

  • English Language Fellows

English Language Fellows, specializing in Teaching English as a Second Language, are placed with Academic institutions for one academic year working with underserved communities around the country. The Fellows help strengthen English language skills and teaching methodologies by providing in-class teaching, and training  to local teachers on how to enrich classroom learning.   

  • English Language Specialists

Post brings over English language specialists to Israel to conduct workshops and seminars at schools, colleges, and universities.  These programs target students,pre-service and in-service teachers, and other professionals. 

  • English Teaching at American Corners

 Post supports a program of free English classes for junior high and high school students at each of the American Corners in country.  The students are a diverse group from underprivileged socioeconomic backgrounds and will study principles of democracy, civil society, American culture in English. 

  • Embassy Speaker Program

The Embassy arranges for diplomats and other native English speakers to visit local classrooms and discuss a broad range of topics relating to aspects of American culture. Previous topics have included volunteerism, U.S. elections, Black History Month, the environment, career development, American holidays, music, the media, and women's rights.
