Materials for Teaching English

The U.S. Department of State offers a range of resources and materials that support high-quality English language instruction worldwide. These resources are aimed at supporting teachers of English outside of the U.S. Printed materials include:

English Teaching Forum is a quarterly journal published by the U.S. Department of State for teachers of English as a foreign or second language. Most of the authors of the articles are classroom teachers.

Essential Bibliography is an annotated list of key commercial references and teaching resources related to the professional development of teachers of English as a foreign language. The titles included in the bibliography were selected by the author of the document and do not constitute an endorsement by the Department of State.

 The Publications Catalog contains over 80 printed titles are produced by the Department of State and distributed to teachers of English outside of the U.S. through U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the world.

Teaching Pragmatics explores the teaching of pragmatics, which is the ability of language users to match to find socially appropriate language for the situations that they encounter.
