Remarks by Special Envoy for Middle East Peace Sen. George Mitchell before meeting Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak

Senator Mitchell: “Well thank you Mr. Minister. It’s always a pleasure to see you and to be back in Israel. Our objective is clear: a comprehensive peace in the Middle East, including peace between Israel and the Palestinians, Israel and Syria, Israel and Lebanon, and the full normalization of relations between Israel and all of the countries of the region. That is President Obama’s vision and we are determined to pursue that with all the energy and effort that we have, and the recent difficulties remind us of the urgency and importance of the task that we set for ourselves and for the region. Our policy is based upon what we believe to be the national interest of the United States, and also very much the interest of the people of Israel, the Palestinian people, and people throughout the region. Thank you all very much.
